- Average 2026 processing time is roughly 4–5 months.
- If VA finds a duty-to-assist error, the case is returned to correct it — this can reset the timing.
- If HLR fails, you can still file a Supplemental Claim or Board appeal within one year of the HLR decision to preserve the original effective date.
