Overview
Periodontal disease and gradual tooth loss without bone trauma are typically Class II/IV dental treatment-only conditions, not compensable.
Compensable ratings require trauma- or disease-related bone loss documented by imaging.
Service connection for treatment purposes (Class II) is common even when ratings are not assigned.
How to Establish Service Connection
- Direct: documented in-service trauma to maxilla/mandible.
- Secondary to a service-connected condition such as osteomyelitis.
