How does the VA rate back and spine conditions?

Details
- Thoracolumbar forward flexion greater than 60 but not greater than 85 degrees: 10%.
- Forward flexion greater than 30 but not greater than 60 degrees: 20%.
- Forward flexion 30 degrees or less, or favorable ankylosis of the entire thoracolumbar spine: 40%.
- Unfavorable ankylosis of the entire spine: 100%.
- 38 CFR § 4.59 requires painful motion to be rated at the minimum compensable level for the joint, and DeLuca principles require consideration of additional loss during flare-ups and repeated use.
- Radiculopathy into a leg or arm is rated separately as a nerve condition — it is not pyramiding.
