How does the VA rate mental health conditions?

Details

• 0%: a diagnosed condition whose symptoms are not severe enough to interfere with work or require continuous medication.
• 30%: occasional decrease in work efficiency, with generally satisfactory functioning.
• 50%: reduced reliability and productivity — panic attacks more than once a week, impaired judgment, difficulty maintaining relationships.
• 70%: deficiencies in most areas — work, school, family relations, judgment, thinking, or mood.
• 100%: total occupational and social impairment.
• Only one mental health rating is assigned even when several psychiatric diagnoses are service-connected — rating them separately would be pyramiding under 38 CFR § 4.14.
