Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) Decision Reviews
Already rated 100% or receiving SMC? Your VA decision may warrant another look.
Special Monthly Compensation involves additional compensation for qualifying service-connected disabilities, including certain combinations of disabilities, loss of use, and the need for regular aid and attendance.
Oakridge Claims reviews rating decisions, medical evidence, and effective dates to identify potential SMC issues that VA may not have fully addressed.
We review:
- Overlooked SMC-S (housebound) entitlement
- SMC-L and aid-and-attendance decisions
- Potential entitlement to higher SMC levels
- Loss-of-use determinations
- SMC effective-date disputes
Submit your VA decision letter for an initial SMC case review.

How Your RecordGets Read
Esteban Magallon is a Marine Corps veteran and a Registered Nurse. He reads a claims file the way a clinician reads a chart: what the treatment records actually document, which findings the rating criteria ask for, and where the file is silent.
That review drives the strategy — which lane to file in, what evidence is missing, and whether the decision misapplied the criteria. If a case isn't a fit for paid representation, we say so and point you to a free accredited VSO.

Accreditation is authorization from VA's Office of General Counsel to prepare, present, and prosecute claims on a veteran's behalf. It follows a character and fitness review, a written examination, continuing education, and ongoing compliance with the conduct and fee rules in 38 CFR §§ 14.629-14.637. Anyone charging you a fee for VA claims work must hold it.
